The beautiful Sands of Gallipoli 2014 release Australia and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) Limited Edition Medallion from Australia's leading military site - Military Shop. When the British command conceived the idea of a combined Australian and New Zealand force it envisaged it would be called the 'Australasian Army Corps'. But the Australian and New Zealand commanders instead opted to be known as the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps - the Anzacs. The force was commanded by British officer, Lieutenant-General William Birdwood, while Australia's Major-General Bridges retained command of the AIF, and Major-General Godley had the same prerogative for the New Zealanders. The medallion artwork 'Australian and New Zealand Army Corps' features two troops in their distinctive uniforms and is created in an illustrative sketch style common at the time. The medallion is part of the 'Australia in the Great War 1914-1918 Collection', which tells the story of Australia - at home and abroad - during the war years. The presentation features a vial of sand collected from the landing beaches at Gallipoli and a numbered certificate of authenticity. It is minted from brass alloy and finished in highly polished and frosted silver and measures 50mm in diameter by 4.5mm in thickness. Limited to 500 sets.
